History on Taxonomy (Classification)

Taxonomy also referred as Biological classification is the field in Biology which deals with identifying, naming, and classifying species. In 1758 a Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus developed a system that still is used today to classify species. He gave each species two names, genus and species. He then continued to group genera into families, families into orders, orders into classes, classes into phyla, and then lastly phyla to kingdoms. Taxonomy is used by many scientists to help identify and classify numerous amounts of species.
